Fall 2018 Harvesting Compost
We have been composting as a whole school since February 2018. Our daily lunch trash has been reduced from eight to ten garbage cans to two or three. At the beginning of the school year, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th graders harvested two compost rounds as well as worm castings. We were able to sift and use two large wheel barrows from our compost rounds and approximately eight gallons of worm castings for our school garden! The compost we harvested was very light and fluffy. The students enjoyed harvesting the compost while learning and seeing how we can help our environment. We even found a salamander, a frog, and various decomposers.
